Car to be at auction 11/16
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2016-11-26/cars/ref-11-1976-daimler-series-i ...

Auction description:
November 26, 2016 auction
1976 Daimler Sovereign Series II Coupé (4.2 litre)
Registration SFE 901R
Chassis Number 2H1811BW
Engine Number 35377
Odometer reading 24,153 miles
Estimate £24,000 - £28,000

This Daimler was originally registered on 26th October 1976 and has covered a mere 24,153 miles in 40 years on British roads. The three registered keepers of this delightful car have clearly cherished her and, as such, SFE 901R presents in a condition commensurate with such a low mileage example. The white coachwork is virtually unmarked and is complimented by a black Everflex roof and biscuit velour interior. Mechanically, these 4.2 XK engines are strong and reliable; this one is no exception and has very good oil pressure. The interior is unmarked with the highly figured walnut dashboard, a reminder of the level of luxury this car offers. Ergonomically, Jaguars are a pleasure to drive; the stylish coupé offers a sporty look combined with a saloon ride. Supplied with a good history folder, V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 8th February 2017, this Daimler 4.2 Coupé is a splendid example of an increasingly rare model.

• 40 years in same family ownership

• Exceptionally nice example

This lovely Daimler Sovereign Series II Coupé fitted with the desirable 4.2 litre straight six engine was supplied new by Sutton Bridge Motors and delivered on 26th October 1976. This car was in long-term family ownership for three generations which none of them used it as a very day car, only taking it out for special occasions. There is a signed letter from the first owner’s grandson stating when his father inherited the car in 1983 it had covered 23,000 miles and was then put into dry storage. It was registered to his son in 1997, who put through a MoT in 2005 prior to a family wedding. Owned by the son for the next 19 years it was patently cherished and has had a reconditioned gearbox and cosmetic works including paintwork to the lower half of the car. The current owner purchased the car in November 2016 from the fourth owner who only had it for five months and put into his personal collection of cars. Finished in Old English White with rare tan cloth interior, this coupé is supplied with a V5 registration document and a detailed history file which includes the original stamped Passport to Service and other interesting period items. Consigned by John Tomlin

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
