This Kougar Sports is a right-hand-drive example that is noted to have been assembled in the early 1970s using the powertrain and running gear from a Jaguar. The fiberglass-bodied roadster is finished in red and rides on a tubular steel chassis in addition to 15” Revolution wheels, independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. Power is supplied by a 3.8-liter Jaguar inline-six with dual SU carburetors, while shifting is via a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Inside, seating for two is trimmed in beige and accompanied by a Moto-Lita steering wheel and Smiths instrumentation. The car was acquired by the selling dealer in 2024, and the steering column bushing was replaced in 2025. This Kougar is now offered in Boca Raton, Florida, with an Indiana title.

The Kougar Sports model was designed in the 1970s by Englishman Rick Stevens with styling inspired by post-war British sports cars such as the Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica and Healey Silverstone combined with mechanicals sourced from Jaguar S-Type saloons. After an aluminum-bodied prototype was developed in partnership with Dick Crosthwaite and John Gardiner in 1976, Stevens began selling a fiberglass-bodied version of the car via his Sussex company before founding Kougar Cars in 1979. Featuring a proprietary tube-frame chassis, the Kougar was sold in both fully assembled and kit car form in two generations prior to the company changing hands in 1990.

This example is finished in red and features a single-piece windshield, dual side mirrors, full fenders, and a Le Mans-style fuel filler. The louvered hood incorporates a right-side clearance bulge and is secured via leather retention straps. The exposed side exhaust piping is fitted with a perforated heat shield, while dual outlets exit behind the left-rear wheel.

Revolution 15″ wheels with body-color centers are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The independent suspension features a dual-shock setup out back, and braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear units.

The right-hand-drive cabin houses seating for two trimmed in beige leather with red piping, and shoulder belts are equipped for both occupants. Coco-style mats line the footwells.

The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 6,500-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring water temperature and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 99k miles, and total mileage is unknown. The steering column bushing was replaced in May 2025.

The Jaguar 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors as well as a dual exhaust system. An oil change was performed in May 2025.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an overdrive unit.

The car is titled in Indiana as a 1973 Kougar Unknown using the VIN 1L23186BW, which appears on a plate riveted to the firewall.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
